The EKG-20 power shovel made by Uralmashplant is commissioned at Solntsevskiy open-cast mine (Vostochnaya mining company (VGK), Sakhalin). This is the first domestic-made machine in the fleet of VGK.
The EKG-20 supplied to Sakhalin in December last year was customized to suit the Customer's requirements and mining conditions of Solntsevskiy coal pit. The main feature of the machine is the enhanced bucked capacity: from standard 20 cubic meters to 22 cubic meters, making it possible to increase the volume of excavation per cycle by 10% without increasing the rated bucket load.
The launch ceremony of the EKG-20 took place last Monday. The EKG-20 is the first electro-mechanical power shovel made by Russian company in their fleet consisting mainly of foreign hydraulic machines. The director of Solntsevskiy mine, Mr. Igor Kovach, explained that their decision to purchase a Russian machine was based on its high output and economic efficiency that allow the user to fulfill the coal production plan and reduce excavation costs.
"Declared specifications and performance parameters of the EKG-20 comply meet our requirements to machinery. According to our estimates, this machine provides for 2-3 times cheaper excavation of a cubic meter of overburden soil as compared with hydraulic machines.
The flagship machine of Uralmashplant, the EKG-20, is equipped with advanced AC drive that provides for the power economy during service and makes it possible to recuperate energy into the power circuit. The machine is also provided with an information system, diagnostic systems for units and mechanisms, and a performance control system.
The director of sales of excavating equipment, UK UZTM-KARTEX, Mr. Konstantin Smirnykh, who visited the work site to congratulate the VGK staff with the commissioning of the machine, noted that Sakhalin became the farthest location to which EKG-20 machines made by Uralmashplant have been supplied. "This model is the most demanded one in the Russian market. Today, EKG-20 machines are used by most of the large mining companies in Russia from Kolsky peninsula to Far East," told Mr. Smirnykh.
Vostochnaya mining company (VGK) is the largest coal-mining company of the Far East. It is a vertically integrated company controlling the full production chain from excavation to shipping of the product. The main production facilities of the company are located in Uglegorskiy district (Sakhalin region), namely: Solntsevskiy open-cast coal mine, and "Shakhtersk coal seaport" (which is located within Vladivostok free port zone). VGK is one of the 20 largest coal producers in Russia, and is one of the ten main exporters of Russian coal. This year the VGK company is planning to mine and ship 10 million tons of coal. The company is also planning to spend about 11.5 billion rubles on the development of coal mining and shipping facilities.
"Uralmashplant" JSC (UZTM) founded in July 1933 is one of the leaders among the manufacturers of equipment for mining, metallurgy, construction-materials and power-engineering industries. The main products manufactured by the enterprise include crushing and grinding equipment (crushers and grinding mills of various sizes), rope shovels, hydraulic excavators and walking draglines of various types and modifications, heavy overhead cranes, metallurgical presses, accessories and tools for them, and mine hoists. The Company's development strategy aims to launch machine-building lines that would be capable of providing end-to-end solutions to the mining and metallurgical industry to achieve their production targets using equipment manufactured by UZTM and other Russian producers. "Uralmashplant" JSC, supported by its strategic partner Gazprombank, implements an investment program that provides for a large-scale upgrade of the Company's machining and welding facilities, digitalization of production processes.
