The plan of his visit included a meeting with the governor of Sverdlovsk region, the ceremony of appointment of honorary consul of India in Ekaterinburg, and a visit to Uralmashplant. Mr. Venkatesh Varma explained that his interest in Uralmashplant is originates in the long-term cooperation between Uralmash and Indian companies. "Many things produced here contribute to the relations between India and Russia," says the ambassador.
Cooperation of Uralmashplant and Indian companies started more than 60 years ago, and today India is one of the key foreign partners of Uralmash. More than 300 excavators were supplied to India, and all leading Indian steelmakers are using Uralmash-made equipment. At the moment Uralmashplant is participating in the largest Russian and Indian project, the construction of Kudankulam NPP. Uralmashplant will manufacture trestle cranes, airlock components, and two refueling machines for the third and fourth units of the nuclear power plant.

"In this year the plant has significantly increased the volume of production, and we see a major increase in the demand for our product from mining companies. In addition to the development of traditional fields of our activity, which are manufacturing electromechanical excavators and crushing equipment, we are also mastering new fields, e.g. manufacturing the first Russian hydraulic excavator and a mine winder. Today, Uralmashplant is the only manufacturer of such equipment in Russia." Mr. Smolin told the ambassador. He also made specific that the most important task of Uralmashplant today is not only to supply equipment to customers, but also to provide them with maintenance services meeting highest international standards.
"I have heard a lot about Uralmashpant that people describe as a great factory, but when you see the production process with your own eyes it is quite another matter." replied Mr. Venkatesh Varma, "Your factory is a beautiful example of strength of Russian industry. This visit is very important to me because the equipment made here is of the great importance for India-Russia relations".
